Puppy Foundations

Almost everything that goes wrong in a puppy’s first months traces back to one of four things: not enough sleep, no safe space of their own, a household that has not been made puppy-proof yet, or a routine that changes day to day. The guides below deal with those directly, because they are what make everything else teachable.

If your puppy has just arrived, work through them roughly in this order: puppy-proof the house, set up the crate, establish the sleep and toilet routine, then start socialization inside the window that matters. Biting and feeding questions tend to arrive on their own timetable, so treat those as reference rather than sequence.
